چکیده

The ow of solar wind from the Sun is bimodal. High speed, low density plasma comes from high magnetic latitude regions and low speed, high density ow from near the heliospheric current sheet (HCS). We investigate whether this bimodal ow combined with the HCS tilt controls the solar wind velocities in the outer heliosphere near solar minimum when the Sun's magnetic eld is roughly dipolar. We present a simple model of radial solar wind ow with regions of fast and slow ow and a HCS tilt provided by the Wilcox Solar Observatory. This is the rst time a model has been used to make quantitative predictions of the solar wind speed in the outer heliosphere based on solar observations. A reasonable t to the main features of the observed velocity pro le at Voyager 2 is obtained if the full-width of the slow speed region is 30 . We conclude that the main physical parameter determining the solar wind speed observed by Voyager 2 near solar minimum in the outer heliosphere is the tilt of the HCS.

Economic assessment of renewable power generation based on wind speed and solar radiation in urban regions

Economic evaluation of 12 MW grid-connected wind farms and PV power plants in two regions in Northern Cyprus for electricity generation was investigated. The wind speed, sunshine duration, and solar global radiation characteristics were analyzed using monthly data collected over 17 years (2000-2016) for Girne and nine years (2008-2016) for Lefkoşa, which were measured at various heights. The re...

Distribution System Annual Cost Minimization Using Clean Type Technologies

One of the basic obstacles in the deployment of clean technologies such as wind turbines or PV modules is their intermittent nature due to dependency on the wind speed and solar radiance. In fact, the authors in this paper aim to investigate the effect of clean technologies such as wind turbines and PV modules on the total and individual costs of the distribution system. In order to model the u...

Estimating Solar Radiation and Developing Iran’s Atlas Map of Optimum Monthly Tilt Angle (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Iran has great potential in utilizing solar energy. In order to maximize the amount of absorbed solar radiation to absorber surfaces, the surfaces should be installed at a suitable angle slope to the horizon that is discussed in this article. The calculations performed in this study was done using MATLAB software. In this study, radiation received on the ground in 31 provincial capitals of the ...
